Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

Arrangements for September and Uniform Letter from Miss Smith

Arrangements for September

  1.  Uniform

We sent a letter with a reminder of the uniform expectations on.  This is still on the school website, but I have attached the uniform expectations once again to this letter.  We need your help with a couple of things please:

  • We wear school shoes. Trainers are only allowed in PE or with a medical note (not from a parent).
  • We don’t wear false eyelashes or false nails.
  • We use lockers to store our coat or have a big enough rucksack to put them in. We take them off as we enter the building.
  • We do not wear leggings. We wear smart school trousers.
  • We only wear one small pair of studs in our ears, or none. We don’t have piercings anywhere else.
  • We always have full PE kit in school (see list at end of the letter).
  • We wear standard school skirts (if a skirt is chosen to be worn instead of trousers). We don’t wear short micro skirts.
  • Sixth Form - to wear smart/casual - no sports leggings or tracksuits - no hats or beanies in the building.
  • Mobile phones must be switched off before students enter the school building and not turned on again until they have left. This is the school Policy.  Students with mobile phones switched on or out in view in school will have them confiscated and they will be locked away in the safe in student reception until the end of the day and a red card put on the system.  If they are caught at the end of the day this will happen the next day.  Please do support us with this for the safety of all students and staff.  Students are in school to learn.  If you need to contact them during the day, please email the office email address on this letter and we will get a message to them, or phone school directly.  You will have seen in the media that there is going to be a national changing picture regarding no mobile phone use in schools.

  1. Punctuality.

Students should be on school site at 8.20am.  This is all students in Y7 to Y13.  Staggered starts that we have had to operate this year will not be needed.  Year Teams will let students in through their designated entrance at 8.20am.  A bell will sound at 8.30am and if they are not sat in the classroom by then they will be marked as late.  3 lates in a week will result in an after-school detention for an hour.  School will finish for all students at 2.40pm.

  1. Covid rules and testing from September

We will continue to operate a one-way system around school.  Social times will remain calm as we continue with our designated indoor and outdoor space for each year group and new enrichment activities at break and lunchtime. As you will see in the press, rules are currently changing and we will communicate anything that we need to around the situation in September.  We do however need to test students twice at the start of term.  A letter has gone out about this and consent forms.  This is to ensure that our whole school community is as safe as possible as they return after the summer break.  Students will then be encouraged to take a LFT every Sunday evening and Wednesday evening during the Autumn Term.  More about how the in-school testing will be done below and via text message to you early in September.

  1. Student induction and return to school September 2021.

For two school years now, the building has not been used in the way that it should as our school went to a remote provision and then students returned in bubbles and set classrooms with no movement.  The new Y7 (current Y6) have not been in the building except for a few hours on Transition morning to one area of school only.  Current Y7 and current Y8 have also never really used the school, fully been in specialised classrooms or moved round school.  That is 900 children who don’t know what to do!  As such it is important that we have a reset of expectations and a full induction for each year group.  In addition, we have to have capacity to test 1600 children on their return.

The programme is as follows:

  1. Parents’ Evenings from September.

These will be held on Thursday evenings, and you can see where your child’s will be from the school calendar on the website that we are just preparing to upload.  We will communicate key dates to you anyway in September.  From all the feedback these will be done remotely via the School Cloud app.  There will be opportunities for families who cannot join that way to still come in to see their year team.  There will also be opportunities for families to come in for other reasons, like a school production, music night, Art exhibition, etc.

An early ‘save the date’ – Open Evening is on Thursday 16th September 5.30pm to 7.30pm.  Families are welcome to come into school and look around and meet our staff and students, especially those of you with Y4/5/6 children.

Best wishes
