Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

Change to Behaviour System

7th September 2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Change to Behaviour System

I hope you have had a lovely break and that you and your child are ready for the start of the new school term. We are looking forward to a fresh start this year and creating an environment where everyone feels like they belong and that they are valued members of the community.

I am writing this letter to inform you of some changes to our behaviour systems based on feedback from our student, parent and staff surveys. Although many responses about behaviour, particularly from families, were positive a number of opportunities for us to improve were highlighted across all of the surveys.

At Beckfoot Oakbank, we want to ensure that all students reach their potential, and that no student is left behind. We have our absolutes that set out our expectations for everyone in the school and believe that these absolutes will allow all students to maximise their successes both academically and socially. However, we also understand that not all students will be able to achieve this without making mistakes along the way. Our student absolutes are in place to allow teachers to teach and students to learn. Where students fail to meet the student absolutes (please see page 2), behaviour points are issued in order to reinforce our expectations so that students can be successful. In some cases, where students are making learning very challenging for the other students, these students will be removed from the lesson to enable learning to take place. However, even with these sanctions in place, some students have still struggled to meet our expectations and therefore we have had to act on the feedback from our surveys in order to improve the culture in school.

In order to address this, we will be introducing after school detentions for those students who persistently disrupt the learning of others.   These detentions will last for up to one hour, 2:40pm-3:40pm and will have to be attended on the same day. If your child will be sitting a detention you will receive a text message from school letting you know the time that they will be finishing that day.

I am sure that you will all want your children to have the best possible experience at Beckfoot Oakbank and I am certain that you will all support us and your children with these changes to ensure that no child is left behind and all students are able to reach their potential with us.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on the office email address on this letter.
