Uniform Letter Summer 2025

July 2025
Dear Families,
I hope this letter finds you well. We are all looking forward to the break here at Beckfoot Oakbank.

As we move out of July and into August,  I have no doubt that many of you will be considering buying new school shoes for September, making sure that your child has perfect uniform and is equipped for success. This is so important for our school community. It allows us all to create a sense of belonging. When students arrive at school in perfect uniform and fully equipped, they feel good about themselves and are prepared to do well. It is a key part of all of us enjoying belonging to Beckfoot Oakbank.

Our Local Behaviour Protocol states: Any black leather (leather look) shoe or trainer is acceptable. Slip-on or laced (laces must be black). The shoe must be wholly black. Suede, nubuck or canvas shoes are not allowed. Boots are also not allowed (however, students may travel to school in boots during winter and change once at school).

I wished to provide some clarity regarding what is, and what is not, acceptable for shoes when we move into September. The first 12 types of shoes would all be acceptable. Please note that we are including plain black leather look trainers, such as ‘Nike Air Force 1 Low,’ as acceptable for the coming year.

For your clarity, the uniform expectations are as follows:

  • School polo in the correct colour (2025-26) (Y7 – purple, Y8 – red, Y9 – green, Y10 – blue, Y11 – black). Shirt
colours follow students up, saving families time and money.
  • Plain black trousers (no jeans, cargo pants or leggings) or a skirt which is knee length and worn over tights.
    Subtle flared trousers are allowed.
  • Black leather or leather look shoes (no trainers, suede, canvas or boots).
  • Subtle makeup, eyelashes and nail polish (no false nails are allowed).
  • Studs are allowed to be worn in the ear (no hoops or dangly earrings). One ring, two bracelets, a necklace
(which must be hidden) and a nose stud or nose hoop is allowed.
  • Plain black headscarves can be worn.
  • Coats and hoodies must be removed prior to entering the building and not put back on until after they
    leave the building.
These expectations remain the same as previous. We are simply reclarifying. One small change is that if students
choose to wear their coat inside the building it will be confiscated until the end of the day where students can
collect it from the uniform shop. This applies for all students, even if they are catching a bus.
If a student fails to meet our uniform expectations when checked each morning during line-up, then one of
    several things can happen:
  • We will support students to wear the correct uniform by loaning this to them.
    • In terms of equipment, we expect students to have;
      • A bag big enough to carry A4 books in
      • A clear pencil case
      • 2 black pens
      • 1 purple pen
      • 1 pencil
      • 1 rubber
  • If a student fails to meet our uniform expectations when checked each morning during line-up, then one of several things can happen:
  • We will support students to wear the correct uniform by loaning this to them.
  • If appropriate, parents will be informed that a child is coming home to change.
  • If students refuse to correct their uniform, then they will be placed into IEU until this is resolved.
  • Prior to receiving any consequence, students will always receive a chance and a choice in line with our mantra of kind and consistent.
  • We look forward to seeing your children in September:
  • Y7, 11 and 12 start back on Wednesday 3rd of September. Arrive by 8:15 for an 8:20 start.
  • Y8, 9, 10 and 13 start back on Thursday 4th of September. Arrive by 8:15 for an 8:20 start.
Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s year team lead.
    Yours faithfully,
    Chris Ray, Head of School
