Head of School Update
We were happy to see the recent Telegraph & Argus article Beckfoot Oakbank School, latest Ofsted monitoring visit | Bradford Telegraph and Argus recognising how far Oakbank has come. There is still plenty to do, but this progress is down to the incredible hard work of our staff, the support of parents, and students embracing the changes. Together, we are on a journey to something remarkable – and there’s more to come.
It has been an exciting and busy time at Oakbank, with our students taking part in some incredible opportunities.
World Record Success in Bradford Thousands of schoolchildren across Bradford, including Oakbank students, helped set two new musical world records as part of the UK City of Culture celebrations.
Largest Air-Drumming Session: 2,458 participants at Bradford Live.
Largest Body Percussion Lesson: 2,558 participants. The event supported BBC Children in Need and was led by world record-breaker Tim Brain, who previously hosted the world’s largest percussion ensemble in 2023. We are proud that our students were part of this historic achievement!
Outdoor Adventure in the Lakes A group of Year 9 and Year 10 students are currently enjoying a residential trip in the Lake District, taking on outdoor pursuits and team-building challenges. These experiences are invaluable for developing resilience, confidence, and leadership skills.
BBC Careers Event
On 11th November, Oakbank had the pleasure of hosting the BBC for an inspiring careers event. Pupils heard from:
The Events Manager at First Direct Arena
A BBC Senior Producer
A Porsche Vehicle Technician
They shared insights into apprenticeships, career pathways, and how to take the next steps. Students also explored the BBC Bitesize Careers platform to discover which apprenticeships might suit them and access links to a wide range of opportunities.
The interactive show involved pupils using the BBC Bitesize website to find out about what apprenticeships would suit them and the links to all the different types of apprenticeships available. Careers – BBC Bitesize

Key upcoming dates for Year 11:
Reports Sent Home: Tuesday 25th November
Parents’ Evening & Sixth Form Open Evening: Thursday 11th December
It has been a positive start back to the second half term of the year by Year 11. After successfully completing the first round of their mock exams before half term, it is now back into lessons to identify the gaps in learning and build on the positive foundations the students have put in place. There is a range of Period 6’s on for Year 11 on different nights of the week, as well as the Mastery sessions which are occurring during tutor to ensure all students are making as much progress as possible.
We are entering into an exciting week next week, where eight Year 11 students have applied to be
Head of School and will lead on a range of Student Leadership opportunities throughout the year. The students involved have gone through and application process and the whole school will be voting for the candidate they would like to be successful. The students are Annaya N, Sadia B, Declan M, Calum B, Olivia W, Logan R, Noor K and Imaani F. Good luck everyone!
We have also had a very successful week with regards to the Year 11 Football team. The students played a home match against Abbey Grange from Leeds and won 4-1! This has put the team into the 4th round with another home game against Sherburn in the next two weeks.
Finally, we have also had some students across school raising money for West Yorkshire Scouts. Jess in Year 11 has helped raise £17000 in aid of going to support communities in Peru this coming summer. A fantastic achievement Jess and I am sure the communities will really feel the benefit of all the hard work you and your team have put into raising the money.

Students have had an exciting couple of weeks! They were visited by the West Yorkshire Fire Service for an informative firework safety presentation, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Attendance prizes are proving popular, with students competing enthusiastically to win. Year 9 have been getting creative with embroidery projects, while Year 10 have completed their poetry unit, making thoughtful connections between the poems studied and Armistice Day. Year 9 and 10 attended the BBC Careers Assembly in main school.
Looking ahead, careers appointments for Year 11 students begin next week, helping them plan for their future. Meanwhile, staff were treated to an outstanding cheesecake made by Alex, a delicious highlight of the week! Thank you to everyone for your hard work and commitment; let’s keep the momentum going.
