Spanish at Beckfoot Oakbank

MFL will support students to learn essential knowledge and skills to communicate effectively and confidently in an additional language.

Students will learn to enjoy the opportunities that learning a language can bring not only in itself but also in terms of social and cultural capital, global citizenship and employment. Students will understand how these competencies can lead to successful and fulfilling lives.

Students will develop knowledge, linguistic and grammatical skills to manipulate language both spoken and written, for a range of purposes and audiences. Students will gain the confidence to speak fluently in another language to express and justify their ideas and opinions. While developing their skills and knowledge, they will gain an appreciation, understanding and empathy for other cultures and people.

Enrichment

Students have access to a wide range of enrichment activities, these include:

  • European Day of Languages assembly
  • The Hispanic World
  • Christmas customs in Spain
  • Day of the Dead traditions
  • Authentic material – poetry, novels, music, films
  • KS4 Barcelona trip

Assessment

In years 7, 8 and 9, internal assessments will take place throughout each year to monitor pupil progress and further inform teaching and learning.
