History at Beckfoot Oakbank

We aim to make our students successful historians through creating lessons that encourage students to think like a historian by evaluating evidence, developing an understanding of chronology, analysing interpretations, and making judgements.

We aim to give students the knowledge and skills to be able to ‘speak like a historian’ and to be confident in articulating their own thoughts and opinions.

We believe that history is a remarkable subject to help students to: interpret evidence, understand change and continuity, explain significance, make judgements, ask questions, and be well-rounded citizens able to converse in current affairs through the understanding of the past. History enables students to understand and become involved in the political process and actively voice their own views and opinions.

Enrichment

Our curriculum supports the building of cultural capital through the constant exposure to politics, religion, art, architecture, current affairs and language within the history that we teach.

Past enrichment activities have also included trips to Bolton Abbey, Quarry Bank Mill and Thackery Medical Museum.

Assessment

Summative and formative assessment will be used throughout KS3 to monitor pupil progress and further inform teaching and learning.
