At Beckfoot Oakbank, we respect and value all children and are committed to providing a caring, friendly and safe environment for all our students so they can learn in a relaxed and secure atmosphere.
We believe every student should be able to participate in all school activities in an enjoyable and safe environment and be protected from harm. This is the responsibility of every adult employed by, or invited to deliver services at Beckfoot Oakbank. We recognise our responsibility to safeguard all who access school and promote the welfare of all our students by protecting them from physical, sexual and emotional abuse, and neglect and bullying.
Our child protection and safeguarding policy ensures these values are recognised and adhered to.

You can find guidance on a wide range of topics, see what’s happening locally, and explore services designed to support children, young people and local families. Start your search in the Service Directory and access a variety of reliable and up-to-date information.

Our school is part of Operation Encompass, which is a national scheme that operates jointly between schools and police forces.
Operation Encompass is the reporting to schools, prior to the start of the next school day, when a child or young person has experienced domestic abuse.
As a school, we have ensured that a member of our staff, (Designated Safeguarding Lead) known as a Key Adult, has been trained in the Operation Encompass procedure, allowing us to then use the information that has been shared, in confidence, to support the children in our care.
The Domestic Abuse Act 2021, identifies children who experience domestic abuse as victims of domestic abuse in their own right. If school receives a notification from Operation Encompass, a safeguarding lead may contact you to check in and offer any further support.

Schools are duty bound to safeguard students from radicalisation and being drawn into extremism. If school suspects this is happening, they will make a referral to the local Prevent Team to gain support for the student.
If you think a child or the people around them are involved in radicalisation and there is an immediate risk of harm, call 999 straight away. If the risk isn’t immediate, please speak to your schools safeguarding lead.
