Dear Parent / Carer

I am writing to announce our exciting, brand new student leadership programme for this academic year. In previous years, students who were interested in becoming a student leader would register their request with the school, go through a selection process and eventually be part of a small team. This, by its nature, excluded a large number of our students the opportunity to offer our school their opinions, voice and ideas of how the school could be changed and improved for the better.

This has all been removed. Every single young person in our school now has the opportunity to become a student leader, earn the esteem of others as a role model in our school and have their voice heard. To achieve this aim, we are aligning our student leadership programme to the whole school rewards strategy. When a student achieves their 3-star bronze badge (500 stamps) they will automatically be invited to be part of the school’s student leadership team. They will receive a letter from the Headteacher congratulating them whilst outlining each of the three teams they can join which form our student leadership body: Events team, Health and Wellbeing team and Voice team. The roles and responsibilities of each are outlined below:

Each team will be led and facilitated by our enrichment leaders, Miss Melia, Miss Studholme and Miss Berry.

By having their 3-star bronze badge your child will be seen as a student leader in school as they have demonstrated our student absolutes consistently and are therefore role models for other young people.

If a young person achieves their 5-star gold badge (1000 stamps) then they will be automatically promoted to the student leadership board. Here, they will collate the big ideas from each of the three teams, present them in assemblies and attend senior leadership meetings to communicate these to the Headteacher to a view of getting them actioned.

Student leadership provides your child with a fantastic opportunity to develop their communication, teamwork, leadership, and other key employability skills to make them future ready for their next steps whilst owning their learning experience at Beckfoot Oakbank.
