Beckfoot Trust is an organisation that links a group of local Bradford schools together so that they can collectively improve the life chances for young people within their schools. Our aim is to create a group of truly remarkable schools each with a genuine comprehensive intake. They will be wonderful places for young people to learn and grow up in. We want to make a difference. We want to create something special.

World Book Day is a globally celebrated event which allows children of all ages to share a love of reading for pleasure. Reading is an essential life skill yet is in decline, both nationally and across our community. World Book Day is an opportunity for us to engage our children through reading, to give them to opportunity to read for pleasure across the curriculum and to be exposed to reading as a lifelong love, not just a chore at school.

On Thursday 3rd March, all Year 7 and Year 8 students will have the chance to read a book in a day, reading sections of it in in their tutor period and then in every lesson throughout the course of the day. At the end of the day, they will be able to take the book home with them to keep.

There is no preparation or contribution required from home, other than for you to continue to support your child by encouraging their reading for pleasure at home, speaking positively to them about reading for pleasure and, where time permits in your own busy lives, by modelling reading for pleasure with them.

All Year 7 and Year 8 students have enjoyed their Library lessons over recent weeks and, once World Book Day is complete, we will launch our Reading for Pleasure initiative. Watch this space!

If you would like any further information, please contact me at school - Sarah Phillips, Subject Leader for Year 7, 8 and 9 English, sp@beckfootoakbank.org

Otherwise, thanks in advance for your support and happy reading!
